NAREW

The Narew River - Flowing through Northeast Poland, an eastern tributary of the Vistula
The Narew is 484 km long.  While it mostly flows through Poland, it actually begins in Belarus about 1km from the Polish border.
After it flows through the Polish countryside, it flows into a resevoir formed by the Bondarach Dam, after which it flows into the SiemianĂłwka River until it reaches Lake Zegrzynski.  Shortly thereafter, it flows into the Vistula.
Since the river flows through low country, it has created extensive swamps, marshes and peat bogs.   It is the only river in Europe, and one of three in the entire world, which has many channels (commonly referred to as a “braided” river).  The word Narew comes from a word meaning “dive” which in medieval times meant a river or other body of water.
